What a great day it is today! January 6th, 2012 unites in marriage one of our members. Beard is biting the bullet and taking the leap. Though to some it may seem unreal, I can tell you first hand, it’s truly happening. Last night was the much-anticipated rehearsal dinner and rehearsal. Though I could not make the dinner due to a scheduling conflict, the rehearsal lived up to the hype. Mainly for the reunion. Chuck made the flight up to not only witness a great friend get married, but to be part of the most disciplined and well-respected ushering crew. Though I still have not seen or read my assignment out of the wedding playbook, Chuck filled me in, and I’ll have my wristband to reference throughout the night in order to save timeouts. Chuck has been assigned to balcony duty, while Pasta and I have been thrown to the curb, literally. We will be ushering (monitoring) parking, which I still have no idea what that entails. Park and walk in is pretty clear, but we’ll do our best, and in downtown Portland, it is definitely needed. At some point during the pre-game ushering, I will get the call in from the bullpen to pitch middle relief. A grandma on the bride’s side needs an usher to walk her in, and who better than Nitro.
It is time that I introduce two other ushers, who are part of the Fontana family. Quincy(Steve) and Deception (Nate). Though Deception was never a full-time resident of Fontana, he holds honorary membership status. Quincy, on the other hand, completed two years of service at Fontana, and after his five year waiting period, will be on the ballot for induction into the Fontana Hall of Fame.
Rehearsal went well, and I feel as though the ceremony will run real smooth. It’s so exciting to see Rondie leading the charge of this occasion. Upon exiting the rehearsal, all the guys headed over to a gym to play some hoops. A lot of fun running up and down the court with the guys again. Looking forward to tonight to hear what Kev can bring to the reception via his best-man toast. Cheers.
Signing off.
